Working on The Apple carJanuary 21, 2021, 11:15 pm Working on The Apple car. Question for you: what is Apples best shot at competing with Tesla in premium passenger segment: $AAPL $TSLA I bought the M1 MacBook Pro for the overall user experience. Not for the Apple brand and design, not for the specs and not for best performance. But the overall user experience is brilliant in every detail. It should be the same for Apple Car. Apple seeks to have premium products at premium prices to gain premium margins. They are too far behind without enough vertical integration to achieve this. The only hope theyd have for achieving this would be in the autonomous taxi market. Skipping 4 wheels and going VTOL Design and brand. Big problem though.... no more Jony Ive..... so its game over...... Start mass production before 2027! The Problem is that tesla will sell premium cars for not premium prices. So I see google apple and amazon battling to get a share of the transportation and mobility solutions of the future. But apple is not competing with Tesla. Moreso with all other oems. NONE! No one cares about 2028 See, the problem here is that Tesla is already defining the space. It isn`t for Apple to find some way on which they can differentiate. That`s not really how Apple works. If they try to do this, it would not only be a departure from their style, it also probably 1/ Results of the pole so far... Form over function. Shoulda known. Branding is Apple strongest point~ One way would be, they will still be selling cars to public which are affordable. T may have already decided to stop selling by the time A car hits the market? They definitely will have a win in luxury design and brand but to really compete it will come down to Autonomy capabilities vs FSD autopilot. Both Tesla and Apple understand software and will both have compelling software. As far as power trains and batteries Tesla will win. Apple ecosystem integration is the only thing I can think of honestly. Not using Apple Maps Tesla`s UI is still pretty underdeveloped (Netflix, calendar, games). Apple could get a lead start by focusing on these items. That being said, if they don`t figure out autonomous, UI in a car won`t matter cuz you`ll be busy driving. None ! Just basic customer decency and a quality RELIABLE product that Tesla lacks You forgot the none of the above option. Thats what I would have picked. There is a answer missing: - by being a luxury brand (similar to lucid) Tesla goes the google way (mass market) Apple can target the 20% mercedes, porsche, bmw luxury segment b, c & d are dilusions imo. Compete with Tesla ON BRAND??? Thats THE reason why people buy Teslas its literally like the iPhone in cars. Experience in both hardware & software is the only way, but even then... I think its a lost case in terms of stealing TSLA marketshare Their best shot is not to compete with $TSLA in this segment, but rather to run the race that remains: the $20-25k segment. This likely explains the Hyundai rumors. Democratize the lean AAPL software experience in an economy car. I think $TSLA foresees $AAPL trying to flank them. Model 3 is better than any other car Ive ever owned, but the design, quality, and customer/service engagement could be better. Apple will likely nail all three of these measures from day 1. If Apple can make people feel its Car is a fuller-experience version of their iPhone, Apple will sell SOOOO many cars. None of the above. I dont think they can compete unless it is a segment Tesla is not competing in. Brand will be a strength for Apple. But without autonomy, the value proposition will be completely different. If the Apple Car does beat out Tesla to capture 1 market share (or 1 revenue share), it`ll be because of a better fit & finish, design, and the appeal of their brand. I don`t think they`ll be better with software, battery or powertrain advantages. Most certainly none of the above Id say their only shot is ecosystem integration with existing products None of the above? Option 5: hiring ex Tesla engineers (which theyve been doing) |
