While I appreciate the efforts taken by RIL to lauch affordable smartphones to target 2G customers of Airtel and VI, but do you all really feel that a 2G user in a rural area who has not yet shifted to 3G or 4G will buy a phone worth 4000 to shift to costlier 4G? RelianceAGM

In my village every woman wants to watch serial but male member wants to watch something else solution Jio phone super hit guaranteed

Over short term the shift will completely depend on pricing... Eventually at some point even those users will shift to 4G/5G... At this point RIL is creating the ecosystem... RIL has the assets... Just need an user base to sweat those assets...

The problem is severe for an operator actually. Airtel, JIO, VI have to maintain a 2G infrastructure, low band radios to support such customers. Quickly they move to 4G, more infrastructure can be reused to launch 5G, since they are going to share quite a bit.

In rural area many people feel that using a smartphone increases their chances of being more accessible to financial fraud so that is also a reason they avoid it.

There`s a catch. Tariffs for Jio`s 4G feature phone users are much lower than the other 4G users. That is a key reason why Jio`s ARPUs are much lower than that of Airtel`s in addition to the fact that Airtel`s enterprise and postpaid subscribers are more than Jio`s.

True. Its a big bet. But then, RIL always banks on the aspiring Indian. Digitising the lowest denominator in society has been Mukesh Ambanis dream, he will try to make it succeed.

1. It`s equally about upselling the 4G phone to existing JioPhone users so as to push up the ARPUs. 2. India had ~500mn feature phone users as of `20 end. Even if 20% of those switch to Jio`s 4G phone (at Rs 4k), it`s a massive opportunity. And that should be very much doable.

Free mobile phone will be distributed as poll promises

I will be difficult, not only cost but rural people won`t shift to smartphones as they will find it complicated

What happen to free LPG , till your not increasing purchasing capacity , it won`t help.

I was also thinking the same :-)
