US Navy uses submarine torpedo tube to launch droneDecember 9, 2013, 5:19 pm Are drones the future of aviation? It certainly seems so, but their usage is expanding daily. The technology of today allows the use of drones for anything from surveillance to package delivery and everything in-between. What came as a surprise though, is seeing a drone seemingly coming out of nowhere in the middle of the ocean! The United States Military has indeed a soft spot for anything tech-related. Investing incredible sums of money each year, the military is responsible for some amazing technological breakthroughs, the internet itself not excluded! The latest to come from that front, comes from the US Naval Research Laboratory which has now informed the press that it has managed to use a submerged submarine torpedo tube to launch a drone in the middle of the ocean. The US Naval Research Labs drone managed to fly around for a whole hour. The use of such drones launched in secret from anywhere under the ocean provides the United States Navy incredible advantages both in peace and war times, offering surveillance and reconnaissance possibilities never seen before at no great cost or risk for its (human) personnel. |
