Is Linux best for Programmers? Yes if you are
Is Linux best for Programmers?

Yes if you are a cyber security major or work in this industry then yes. Usually Mac`s would be better as its faster and apples strong firewall so Unix operators are better but Linux is equally good

When you start using it you realised things start making sense. Then then you want everything in perspective.

If you have Linux go use it, it doesn`t matter what tool you use, what matter is your skills

Linux is descended from Unix. BD5 or Berkeley Systems Development 5 is about the latest version of Unix. It`s massive. Original Unix release was 1963, BD5 is far and away the most powerful multi-threaded operating system in the history of computing. You should do well w/Linux.

macOS is better and faster for programming.

If you`re into System Programming, yep. Linux is the way. If you`re into Web development, Game development and other User Application developments, MS Windows or Apple`s Mac OS is probably better. Or you could be adventurous and experience what community can build.

Here now all the linux teachers have appeared

Can anyone help me with which OS is better for web developement, GUI development, cloud development, Mobile app development (using python Kiwi), I`ll also use some additional softwares like adobe premiere pro and XD. My skills: Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

I`ve been a developer for 21 years. I started with Visual C++ on Windows, worked with Carbon and Cocoa frameworks on macOS (OS X back in a day), worked with NetBSD and spent a fair time with Linux. Best platform is the one that gets the job done. Project will usually dictate OS

Definitely , the tools and ease of access to them make Linux a perfect platform for programming. Wouldn`t use anything else.

It is whatever you are comfortable with. When you develop something you start with the end result and you work your way back to your development environment. You also take in to consideration the work load. It`s best that you start having a microservices mindset early.

Yuppp only if you are ready for adventures

Depends Is best for Programmers? Yes, some of the best ways to use Linux requires the user to be lenient towards that profession Is Linux best for ? No, that`s entirely dependent on the programmer

It all depends on what you are trying to create and the programming language you have to use. For example PHP yes, no, no, no.

yesss it`s free and open source , for developers recommended most

of course, the big things in the whole world of the opensource and free software history are from GNU-Linux and *UNIX users, for example Docker in Windows was a pain development and took a lot of the time that it really works

Linux is mother of all other languages

If they are not tied to corp environment (with weird vpn, proprietary wifi connect tools, weird corp iam causing linux Teams to log off etc) then yes. If you develop e.g. backend for linux runtime/automation.. "Native" bash, various cli tools, ansible, docker (!), ..

For open source, Linux is best

Learn to use all tools for all OS and especially terminal/shell/bash, get you a collection of commands, many as you can for each OS, and master command line as well as IDEs you like and ate comfortable with. Linux/unix/macOS & yes you will need to be able to use vbs and ASSEMBLY

Ofcourse not, It`s just to show-off

Yes. It is much easier to do things on Linux than anywhere else and you got a very rich ecosystem. However, this doesnt mean that you have to run Linux directly! This part is your personal choice. We can use WSL2 on Windows, xhyve on macOS, crostini on Chrome OS, and so on.

At least better than windows but in my opinion Mac is the best one

What are you tryin to do?

Yes. Tools are easy to install from the command line and fast when you learn to use them.

If you get errors while running something and would love to figure out how and why it`s breaking, try to fix it yourself. Then Linux is your friend.

If youre building things for Linux, then Linux is pretty awesome.

Matters for extreme coders only

For me MacBook has an edge.

It also depends on for what application you are coding.

I dont know that its the best but it is what youll probably be deploying to. However, most devs get a Windows machine from their employer, which isnt a bad thing but, for testing at least, a Linux VM should be used. Especially if not deploying to the cloud.

Go with what your comfortable with but Linux is top dog.

Switched from Windows to Ubuntu a year ago. Can`t live without bash, ssh/scp, nano and the package manager

At the end of the day you should work with what YOU feel comfortable to use. I love linux, but i understand not everyone likes it.

What kind of programmers? iOS apps? nope. Windows-centric apps? nope. VR Game development? nope. Pretty much anything else? I`d argue so.

If one wants to learn the concepts with practical touch, Linux. If to mock n copy paste stuff and don`t care about what`s is actually going on, windows. If wealthy enough, also passionate, Mac.

flexible for programmer not user friendly for normal users .

Yes it is People who say otherwise are referring to decades old Linux distros. Linux is the easiest to setup the dev environments. Use a good distro like manjaro and it`s package manager will setup everything for you. When you get used to terminal, there`s no way going back

You wanted to start a war, didn`t you ?

Matters less, these days. MacOS works well, Windows has WSL. Linux is perhaps still just a little inconvenient. Docker is integral for many (most?) developers. Virtual machines and cloud computing conveniently takes care of the rest.

If your good at solving the problem you can do it on any platform and OS , for better file handling and security we use Unix based Linux OS

Depends on what a your goals me guesses

Not exactly(?) but mostly, yes

Depends on your interest and work field.

Actually Linux just an OS that can provide better security and control.Ever beginner think that Linux is better for programming that`s not a beginner u should be use a fast and easy OS that is Windows and second MacOs.Don`t use Linux until be an expert.

It depends on what are you gonna to program. If you want to program win apps I think you should stay with windows. Windows is popular than Linux then you can target more users with your apps, my opinion use both

the real question is, are you good enough to use linux?

And open sorce oprating system.

If your system specifications doesn`t match the performance then happily go with the linux.

Yess! , only when you are trying to be Mr. Robot, other than that naah!

I used Linux before, that was good but, whenever you stuck in middle of your work on linux you`ll in tribble to find how to fix that issue. I personally believe that windows is best for newbie`s or pro`s. Because, the community of this OS is huge, they can fix your errors.

Linux is a meth

Neither linux fixes your code bugs nor speed up your machine. Its just a opensource software, less complicated with minimalism.

It surely is. :)

I don`t think that Linux is the best OS for programmers. I think that`s a matter of choice, and depends on the person. But in my opinion, I feel more free in Linux. I can set for myself most of things that you can`t do the same thing in Windows.

i can do the same things with my windows PCs that linux can do - i like linux on my servers & windows on my computer(s)

For every programmer OS is not important.

It is best..opensuse is best for developers

The GPL on most of the Linux stack makes it frightening for most commercial companies. The largest corps on the planet have had their legal issues with it, so for smaller orgs it tends to be a steer clear. For hobby programmers maybe. Want to be employed? Then (mostly) no.

Yes, its stable and not crashing like Windows, security is far better if not best also if you are comfortable to use ugly interfaces...

Depends. What environment are you programming for?

I am a total noob and using linux for more then 5 years. It`s a good OS for general use that I can say.

It isn`t important to use Linux or any specific Linux distro while programming, however, Linux is way better than windows in certain aspects of Programming but it`s just better to use the OS you`re comfortable with.

Sure!!! Linux is the best. Windows if to baby steps

Absolutely Hassle free

Ofcourse ! Linux is best for programmers. Infact , companies use Linux in the organizations ,not so much windows

Yes, Linux is better.

Except for .NET (which is Microsoft`s framework duh), Linux is best.

I want to make an app

Yes, or alternatively, not being possible, use Windows with WSL.

Short answer: Yes Long answer: Yes, Of course!

Linux is to programming as a rock is to a sculpture both work with raw material to make beauty & a useful tools for the lay;wo/man.

Besides being the best suited for programming, linux is secure as it is not easy to get it corrupted or root accessed as it must be approved. But default, windows give administrator privileges to the user, the thing that makes is vulnerable for cyber attacks.

I dont think it is anymore honestly

What about for web developers??

Nope. It doesn`t matter

Yes linux best for programmers.. But it`s very tough to understand because of terminal and shell...

Yes.. most of programmers uses linux
