Even if I had to run android apps one at a time in anbox when the Linux equivalent didn`t exist, it would be worth the freedom.
This is the difference between using a computer where you can produce and a tablet/phone where you mostly consume. Once people become 100% consumers of technology, we give up on innovation, creativity and love for tinkering.
This is one reason my next phone will be an Android phone. Pixel 5a, I am waiting Phone is a pocket computer, wonder if Apple will block side loading apps on MacOS too.

Im trying to play that out in my head and I cant find any obvious flaws, but my gut says its flawed. Im not defending Apple, but the size and consistency of the iOS install base makes them an easily-attacked target. The fragmentation within Linux Distros and AOSP protects.
This is why PinePhone is going to be more and more important
Apple is obviously not right here, but what do you think things would look like if everyone ran FOSS hardware and software? Pop OS and other Linux versions arent prepared to defend non-tech users from themselves.
Apple is clearly trying to convince their non-tech crowd that sideloading is bad because they want them on their side against people that have enough knowledge for sideloading safely...

Seriously, I made a calculator app to do simple calculations for my job as a radio tech and was able to install it on my old BB10 work phone, can`t do the same with the replacement iPhone without publishing it to the App Store or paying for developer access.
