Are there any countries where dialling emergency services onJanuary 24, 2021, 4:34 pm Are there any countries where dialling emergency services on a smartphone can be set up to pass your GPS location to the dispatcher? In Australia, I think the closest we have is an app that shows the *user* their location, on-screen while they call, but they still need to say it. This might cut down on fake emergency calls too, I think. Pranksters would think twice about calling the emergency number if it sent their location at the same time. Odd, you kinda assume when it asks if it can use your gps location it`d actually use it for something more useful I could be wrong but I believe the "Emergency Plus" app you can install does this. Obv not as simple as just dialling 000 but a handy app to have I was going to say this. Here`s the government info (you may have already found): Though given it relies on recent versions of Android and/or iOS... it won`t work with older phones that don`t work with those versions. Acma/dept of communications were running a process for 000 upgrade but can`t find any info now Romania does it, but it doesn`t always reliably work it seems... I happen to know the number a Swedish phone sends the data (SMS, but not text SMS) message to, it`s not the 112 you dial, so I`m _guessing_ a phone whose OS hasn`t been updated since the number was assigned won`t actually be able to use AML. Sweden has since about a year. Technically possible before that, but legally wasn`t because it`s not a user option but built into Android/iOS and overrides phone settings. Uses both GPS/GLONASS and wifi. I think you too have the same AML since recently or soon will. In Finland we have an official Android application for this. This kind of thing should really be handled globally without any country specific apps, but here we are. Sweden has this since a year, automatically. I think the Norwegian "Hjelp 113" - app will set up emergency calls to 110, 112, 113 (Norwegian emergency numbers) and send your location information along with it. was pondering this after a distressed man flagged me down on the street; he`d called an ambulance but was struggling to communicate even his location to the dispatcher. It seems crazy that the Uber app can tell the system where you are, but if youre having a stroke, bad luck. |
