apps should be way more arty n weirdJuly 10, 2021, 4:39 am apps should be way more arty n weird. human existence is weird as shit and I feel like design should reflect that. i`m not a tidy little robot why are so many things designed like I am. tech will really be impressive when it accounts for the fluidity of human existence. this is what we need to go for with the app! Youve probably seen this, but in case you havent: I like where youre going with this a lot! Ive been thinking about this more and more lately and perhaps Apps designed the way that they are because they operate in the confines of how we (and platforms like The App Store and Android Play etc) define Apps. I often think about how websites used to have quirkier designs in the earlier days of the internet. Stuff is more usable today, but it feels like we lost something along the way. I feel there is a difference between experimental designs to evoke a response to learn more about human behavior and to meet a need to accomplish tasks that benefit human existence. E.g. playing a quirky game to zone out v/s completing a money transfer. I often think of making weird art apps that appear normal and slowly subvert and distort your expectations of how an average app should look. For some reason I was just thinking that about Twitter itself today. A cover image is ok and the intent if for the content to shine, but I feel like there is something there. Controlled Myspace madness. i wish apps looked like the UI in persona 5, not a single gd straight horizontal line This just fed my spirit. Please lets get more quirky. |
