App Review: Men in Black 3July 2, 2012, 8:06 pm App: Men in Black 3 Developers: Gameloft Price: Free Rating: Device Used: iPod Touch 3rd Gen by Rico: To coincide with the release of Men in Black in cinemas, Gameloft released a free to play Men in Black game on the iOS store. You`re able to make your own special agent and are assigned top secret missions from Agent O, the majority of the missions involve killing aliens and making sure to wipe the memories of those onlookers who caught sight of the battle. This is one of those games where unless you pay, with real money, frequently for energy refills and currency the game travels at a relatively slow pace - games like farmville and tinytower - although Men in Black 3 manages to make the game feel less unbearable than other games with similar concepts. There are two main phases of the game, preparation and battling. During the preparation phases, you are given the task of making the Men in Black secret as comfortable for your self, and the other agents, as possible by building shops that perform services like creating stronger weapons and healing your agent. The battling phase is, yeah you`ve guessed it, the part of the game where you battle against the evil aliens who aim to compromise the laws of space and time. The game`s perspective is always at an angled bird`s eye view which gives the player the ability to be aware of the surroundings when battling aliens or making shops etc. The graphics are good and even when zoomed out everything still looks nice and clean, even on my iPod 3rd Gen. The Main issue with the game is that for users to fully enjoy it, lots of real money will be have to be spent, but unlike other games which use this sneaky money grabbing tactic, this app is still lots of fun. Another big issue with the game is how shallow the fight phases are, the user simply has to tap on an enemy once every 2 or 3 seconds, there are no defensive tactics (that I am aware of,) and the agent`s special attack can only be used with special coins, that can be bought. Overall this game plays better than others in the genre and everything looks nice, there game is also fueled by a rather strong narrative which also sets it apart from other similar games. I believe that Men in Black 3 sets the benchmark for Freemium games and for those who enjoy games such as Farmville, MiB3 may be right up your alley. |
