2 Questions, tech twitterJune 25, 2022, 6:18 am 2 Questions, tech twitter... Q 1. How does twitter comes to know whether I m tweeting from android or iPhone? Q 2. However, for website it shows tweet from the "web" and not windows or mac etc. If they have done it for smartphones then why not for laptop/PC OS? Just curious. I believe its just like when Google asks you for the verification of user using new device to login or something, during that verification it shows what phone/desktop/laptop you are using. So probably twitter works the same way more or less. Twitter was trying to reign in the mass of third-party apps that were popular back in 2012. They know everything, even when you are sitting in your toilet seat. Only point is what they want to disclose and what not. They know if they disclose iPhone and Android, many will buy iPhone just to flaunt their status. This is just an intelligent marketing. The Twitterhelp pagestates, For example, if you regularly visit birdwatching websites, they might suggest accounts that frequently Tweet about that topic, or show you ads for binoculars or birdfeeders. More interesting part is even if you don`t have any account on Twitter, they can still track your activities because of agreements with third party websites. That`s user segmentation. I know most apps do that today. But why would you want to show this info on the UI is something I don`t understand yet 1. These are some of the hidden information Twitter gleans about you Thetype of browseryou use Your device and its operating system Your mobile carrier Your IP address Your browsing activity outside Twitter Considering from the product perspective there are three platform to cater to , you need development effort of iOS, Android and Web. Of course you can bring the point of various browsers. But they don`t particularly require separate effort, just testing on various browsers My guess is if it`s an app on mobile/laptop it will mention OS otherwise it`s just web. Further, I am curious to know what super important usecase does this info solves for customers. Like why would a Product Manager at Twitter decide to use such prime real estate for this under every tweet. if you use the app you get the agent label There`s mac Q3. Even on smartphones does it mention OS if we tweet from a browser? If not probably on a mobile-based app(android/ios) they detect and mention then everything else is just web? And what it says on desktop apps? My guess: App Store and Play Store has some embedding to differentiate the source of apps but a website is a website. But still Mac, Windows, Linux *may* be feasible. |
